DescriptionPhotograph of a rehearsal for the first performance of Britten's War Requiem. Britten stands in profile centre front talking with Meredith Davies on the rostrum to his left. Pears sings far right while Fischer-Dieskau sits left of the microphone. The Melos Ensemble are seated in right foreground, among them Richard Adeney (flute) on Britten's right and Cecil Aronowitz (viola, in spectacles) centre front. Massed in left foreground is the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Graham Sutherland's reredos tapestry, Christ in Majesty, fills the left background.
